  • 1.  SIM unable to request for Download

    Posted Dec 08, 2009 11:19 PM
I just started to rebuild my Altiris CMS 7 server after damaging the SQL2005 DB i re-installed Windows Server 2003 updated it install all the required software for CMS 7 install. Using the first SIM installer i had downloaded but it requires an update, that goes fine. When it restarts i select a single package such as Altiris CSM 7.0.10 or CSM SP1 and follow through until it starts to check the to see if it can download the packages/products. Once it finish checking a get the following error "You are unauthorized to download one or more products in your selection" I tried this on two different machines one using the older SIM installer and one using the newer SIM installer both are Evalation verison but both seem to fail around the same spot with different software that was and wasn't downloadable. An example would be PCAnywhere will be fine to download when run once, a retry may add it to the list of unable to download. I did think my Network team had block access to one of the machines but get the same results on a completely new install on a different machine.

Here is part of the SIM install log

Have notice that the NTP time on our network was 02:54:33 and not the time in the log of 03:54:33

I have been trying to rebuild the CMS server for two days with no luck. I even tried to get to the lindon.extranet.altiris.com from the purchase email to re-download the SIM installer but still run into the same problem, it can not find the server or it is unavailable.

I can't access that URL from the last error message either.  I will flag this up to have Symantec support check it out.  Just to verify though, you don't have any passive proxy server on the network do you that may have been changed lately?  Or a new firewall rule of some sort?

We have a proxy but no need to authicate to the Proxy on the Vlan the Server runs on. Did try on a different Vlan one the requires a user name and password but i get the same errors. The firewall hasn't been changed since i did first successfully build my CMS7 the first time around about 4-6 weeks ago. But i double check with Networks just in case.

It appears the SIM is still unable to contact Symantec for updates (again). This happens entirely too frequently.

    Hi billyccfs,
I agree this happens too frequently.  I have notified support again that this is a continuing issue.

It's down again (9AM EST) today.  Error is "could not contact the product download verification server."
