  • 1.  Simpler way to create installation when there are many groups

    Posted Feb 20, 2013 11:15 AM

    Hello,

My environment is SEP 12.1.  My colleague has created approximately 30 groups in our SEPM to mirror our OU structure in AD.  As each group was created, an installation package was exported for the group.  As a result, there are about 30 different installations stored on our network, each of which would put a workstation in its proper group.  Is there a better way to handle the installations so that a workstation is added to the right group?  Each of these exported packages is taking up to 300MB of space.  Is there a way to run a script after a general installation occurs so that a workstation is moved into the right group without having to do so manually in the SEPM console?  I would like to have only one installation package stored on the network.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bob

Are you using active directory sync? if so, you only need to create one install. It will get automatically added to the correct group based on where it is in AD.

If not, you can create one package to add them to "Default Group" and than manually move into correct group.

Other than that, check out the moveclients script

It is on the download ISO under /Tools/NoSupport/MoveClient

You can build this script to auto move your clients. See here:

How do I move a large number of SEP clients to a new group at once?

The MoveClient.pdf file is also included. It will contain all the info you need to use this script to get what you need.

    Hi,

Don't worry you can't create different package you can create only one package

However once you have imported OU's and deploy SEP Client ..all the client will go to their respective AD containers in SEPM.

If any client are present in Default AD Computers Containers sep client will show Default location

    Check this thread
