  • 1.  Single image for differnt computer models?

Is it possible to create a single image that can be deployed to different model computers? Where I work, we use HP Compaq workstations. Every time we get the newest model, we have to build an image that is model specific. Our image is very simple so I would love to create and maintian one image that can be deployed to the different models.

    I'm in the same situation.

You can use a tool like sysprep which comes on the windows CD (d:\support\tools\deploy.cab)

You can prepare the pc with all the standard software and then use sysprep to prepare the computer for an image. what it will do is have windows (the image once you have put it onto a new PC) look for all the drivers and whatnot on first boot so the models shouldnt matter. and the image will still have all your software installed on it.

I was able to prepare the first PC, but my problem now is making an image of it. This is my first visit to this site so i can try to figure out where im going wrong. if i get anymore information I will let you know.

you can create an image with sysprep from a ghost console.
when you create a "image create" task, there is tab called sysprep.
you can specify the sysprep file location from here.
still need to download and provide the sysprep files
(but as you said, it is in deploy.cab file)
