Single instance storage across Group?

This issue has been solved. See solution.
Hi,
Now that we are running EV 8 SP1 I'm looking to enable single instance storage across the "Default Upgrade Group" and seek some advice on the following;
- As we were only sharing within each Vault Store (Mailbox, Journal and File) should we close the current open partitions for each store and start with new partitions for each store (Mailbox, Journal and File) before making the change?
- To enable the sharing across the "Default Upgrade Group" is it just a matter of working through the "Configure Sharing..." wizard?
- Is there anything else we should be aware of?
Thanks in advanced,
Cheers,
Phil

Thanks Wayne, Got a couple
Thanks Wayne,
Got a couple more questions;
2. You suggested renaming the "Default Upgrade Group". Hope you understand that I am a little reluctant to rename standard configuration. I know you wouldn't suggest this if it was going to create issues so apologies for asking "do I need to change the name anywhere else (eg in SQL Database)?
Do you have any suggestions for a more meaningful name?
You mentioned a new FingerPrint database. This would be a database called EVVSGDefaultUpgradeGroup_1_1 that was created when we upgraded to EV8. It is already part of our maintenance plan.
Maybe a silly question but if I rename the the "Default Upgrade Group" in EV Admin console should I be renaming the EVVSGDefaultUpgradeGroup_1_1 database too. If so I'd imagine we'd need to replicate this change to other configuration settings...what settings might these be? Or whould I leave as is?
Again, thanks in advanced,
Cheers,
Phil
Hi Phil, I understand, don't
Hi Phil,
I understand, don't worry. The Default name is also not "Default Upgrade Group" you only get that in an upgrade... The default is, there is none ;p Anyhow that said, just right click it and select properties, rename it there... its just a "pretty name", you do not have to of course you can leave it as is if you wish. Just looks ugly and is a burden to type when doing admin tasks that's all.
It depends on the organization really if its a global org with multi data centers, or a single data center "Mailbox Archiving Group" "FSA Group" "COMPANY Group" "Exchange Group" are some that people normally use.
No if you rename the VSG it will not rename the VSG DB, as i said above its just the display name.
If in doubt don't rename it ;) but its easy and simple to, I just think it looks neater. Makes no difference to operations, was mealy a suggestion :p
Hope that helps,

Thanks again Wayne, We've
Thanks again Wayne,
We've just enabled the sharing across the Group (Journal and Mailbox vaults). How can I check the it is in fact working?
I sent in a new email and manually archived to my personal archive. I browse the NTFS folder structure of the Mailbox Vault and find the email there. I was thinking that it wouldn't be there as I thought it would be stored in the Journal and only in the journal.
Maybe another process removes it at a later time (eg when it does it's collections).
Thanks in advanced,
Cheers,
Phil
Hi All, We still have the dvs
Hi All,
We still have the dvs file stored under the Mailbox Vault Store NTFS structure and would really like to know why is this so, as I thought enabling Sharing within the group would only save the email under the Journal Vault Store and not under the Mailbox Vault Store.
How can I check that Sharing within the Group is actually working?
Thanks in advanced,
Cheers,
Phil
Hi Phil, You will always get
Hi Phil,
You will always get a .DVS file for each user and this stores "Per User" information. The main .DVS, .DVSSP and .DVSCC files form the initial archived item should be in the Journal storage location and the optimization is made by the other vault stores referencing this information, rather than storing it independantly like in previous versions.
There is a whitepaper that is available, I will see if I can upload it to the Articles section....
Thanks

Thanks for your reply Mark,
I would very much like to read the whitepaper if you can please load to Articles as I seem to be confused on what Sharing within the group actually means.
I was thinking we'd be saving on HDD storage by enabling Sharing within the group as I thought we'd only have one copy of the actual email (in the Journal presumably), but if the emails are still stored under the Journal Vault Store NTFS and the Mailbox Vault Store NTFS I'm not sure what the advantages for Sharing within group...I think you'll agree I am confused and\or misunderstanding things.
Thanks in advanced for any advice.
Cheers,
Phil
