  • 1.  Site Servers not updating 7.6 HF6

    Posted Nov 25, 2015 11:45 PM

Today, I moved from 7.5 to the latest 7.6 HF6.

We have 3 Site Servers and of those 3, 2 of them are also task servers....the non task server, upgraded it's agents just fine. The other two are not registering or updating their base agents. I see this error in the log viewer.

Registration of old Task Server 'GUID '7.5.3193.0' is rejected (NS version is '7.6.1383.0'). Please upgrade it as soon as possible.

Is there a way to kick this into place or can I manually update these servers just to get the ball rolling?

    Hi,

Have you enable SMA upgrade policies for both "Non Site Servers" and for the "Site Servers" type of clients?

(path in console: Settings -> Agents/Plug-ins -> Symantec Management Agent -> Windows -> Site Server -> Symantec Management Agent for Windows x64 (Site Server Only) - Upgrade).

You may launch "\\NS_NAME\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\NS Client Package\AeXNSC.exe" on a client - that should upgrade SMA.

    Thank you,

    Alex.

Note: in 7.6 Task Server requires MS .Net Framework with version 4.5.1. Task Server computer will not be placed to the "Task Servers upgrade required" collections if version of MS Framework is lower and won't be upgraded as result.

    Alex,

    Thank you for the repsonse.

I did have both SMA Upgrade policies enabled (non site server/site server)

I double checked that they were on the proper version of .NET and they were so, I went ahead and ran the SMA agent upgrade manually. That did seem to work. It's starting to upgrade it's base agents as well. I'm hoping that if I let it sit for another hour or two, all those agents will upgrade and we'll be all set!

Well, that upgraded my Site Servers and the clients Framework agent but I"m showing 2000+ clients in the filter that still need the Software Management Solution agent upgraded...the Framework agent is updating on the group of machines that I spot checked...any other thoughts?

    Hi,

To upgrade "Software Management Solution" you will need to enable corresponding policy:

    Settings -> Agents/Plug-ins -> Software -> Software Management  -> Software Management Solution Plug-in Upgrade

Ensure you see your computers that has outdated Software Management Solution plugin in "All computers with installed Software Management Plug-in required upgrade" collection. Try to dbl-click on this collection on policy page and hit "update results" to be sure all needed collections will be updated.

Also, you may consider to specify schedule time to run this policy instead of relying to "Once ASAP" option - that also could speed-up the upgrade process.

    Thank you,

    Alex.

Let me mention that you can easily verify what .NET and Web versions are currently detected on these machines.

In version 7.6 is that abailable under Basic Inventory:

    SMA76_NET_WEB.jpg

You can either check in respective Resource Manager, of create simple computer report for that.

Be aware that lower versions of 7.* do contain these data-classes only partially, or not at all.

    Thanks,

    Jan

    Thank you all.

This is the latest issue....Non-Site Servers not updating. That's roughly half of my client machines not received the latest SMA agent.

Could be issue with package download from the package server - may you check if download of SMA upgrade package was successful or not on the client side? If package was downloaded then by dbl-click on it you may see run history - maybe some error reported there?

I had also some problems with Task Management in 7.6 HF6 and this manual workaround helped - "Error 1722 while reinstalling task management"
