  • 1.  Sites and Subnets how does it behave?

    Posted Jan 02, 2015 03:11 PM

I am already familiar with the overall way sites and subnets behave with site servers, but have what I hope is a basic question.

If I have a site with a more broad subnet such as 10.200.0.0/16 that has 1 site server that I want to be a main location

then a second site with a site server set as 10.200.54.0/24 that has a different site server.  So essentially

    SITE A  10.200.0.0/16  Site Server A (package)

    SITE B   10.200.52.0/24  Site Server B (package)

Would site B be excluded from site A since it has its own defined site and only use Site Server B for gettting packages, or would it also get them from A possibly?  I want to make sure it will only go back to A if there is not a site specifically called out for a location.  I'm hoping it works this way, otherwise I have to create some 200 sites that would be encompassed by a more high level range but dont have site servers just to make sure they don't go back to the main location vs the 6 sites that will have their own.

    Hi SonicGT!

Site A will includes there all Site Server(s) machine, which are running on 10.200.0.0/16 subnet -> all managed endpoints, which are running on same 10.200.0.0/16 subnet, will try to download packages from this Site A. Same goes for Site B.

Here is a link with similar question, where user tries to configure separate Site(s) per country:

    Thanks,

Thanks this confirms what I thought I would have to do but didn't wan't to do.  I'll have to create the 200 sites that do not have site servers individually and point them to the 1 site server so that clients at the 6 that do have site servers at them will not attempt to go back to the other location and only look at the local package server for downloads.
