What is you view on skipping conflict management in the msi repackaging process. Is it a risk worth taking or can it cause great problems ?

Ikke, It depends

Skipping conflict management can be done, but it depends on what you want. If you are packaging for a XP environment on a Xp machine, then you'd better not skip it.
If you are repackaging for Citrix and you use Citrix isolation or you are packaging MSI's for Softrgid it is also not so important.

Start from day one or no point

The way I understand it unless you started doing conflict management in your environment from day one then the ship has already sailed and there is not much point. Once you already have packages out in your environment you may have to remove and redeploy if conflict management needs to make changes to their component guids.

I have worked in some large XP environments with a heap of programs and we didn't have many issues with conflicting applications even without doing conflict management.
