I understand that Skype is supported by DLP 14, but is Skype for Business supported for agent monitoring and blocking?

    Thanks.

This has been a long standing isssue of Symantec DLP that it doesn't block Skype traffic.

I ran into same issue with a client few years back and the verdict i got from Symantec was that since Skype uses encryption so its not possible to itercept that traffic once User has hit the Send/Enter button.

To the best of my knowledge there is no support even in DLP 14.0 regarding blocking of sensitive traffic through Skype.

This in my view is Achilles Heel of Symantec DLP that it doesn't have support for preventing leakage of confidential data through Skype. Many other vendor's DLP solution indeed block Skype.

With Microsoft moving from Lync to Skype for Business, Symantec should ensure its support asap. This is the biggest unresolved issue with Symantec DLP in my view.

    Hi,

As said on Admin Guide (page 1483):

"For example, if your company uses Skype, you can add the application to the Application Monitoring page. After you add Skype, Symantec Data Loss Prevention monitors the files sent by the client over the network."

    And in "What's new" doc:

    Feature Description:
You can monitor data being pasted from the clipboard to specific applications, such as the Windows Store Mail app, Google Chrome, Microsoft Lync, Microsoft Communicator, and Skype.
See “Clipboard Paste monitoring” on page 20.

As far as our company is blocking Skype, i can not test it.

    Regards

Paulo/Jawad1987, thanks for the replies. I created a ticket with support to make a "new feature" request.

Anyone wanting support for Skype for Business (Cloud and Endpoint based) in DLP 14 should create a ticket. Don't wait, do it now.
