Hello! I was just wondering if the .slg files within the \Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db folder happen to be log files that can be deleted every so often, similar to the .log files in Exchange. I have googled for an answer and found nothing (surprisingly). They are taking up alot of space on the drive in which SEP is installed and I need to free up some space. I appreciate any help/advice in this matter. Thanks!
Might be debug log file.
Can you open 1 in notepad and check what are its content
I have opened several up. What might let me know that they are debug logs?
The earliest file seems to be the beginning, starting when I upgraded from SEP 11 to SEP 12. Each subsequent file seems to be a continuation of the first, up till present day. There are several files per day. Hope this helps.
Leave the latest log file and move the log file to other location or delete the log files. (.slg files)
Thanks. I've moved them to another drive, but I've determined that they weren't what was taking up space on this drive, it is actually the sem5.log file under the same directory.
you can copy the log to someother location after stopping the SEPM and the DB service. New log will be created.
BY the way what's the size of the log at this moment?
I have found a KB article from the Symantec website dealing with changing the setting for log truncation. This seems to have solved my problem. Thanks for your help in this matter!
The log was about 20GB. After truncating it, it is now down to 300K!! What a big difference! It will now automatically truncate the log.
The article is: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH166658
Nice. Just cleaned up about 50 GB on my server (using the truncate log files in the previous post). thanks.
