  • 1.  Slow Imaging process with Windows 7

I've been using Ghost to build and restore images for 5+ years and love the time it takes to image desktop with Windows XP (15 - 30 min).  But recently with Windows 7 it is taking about 6 hours to upload or download the image to desktops using a Ghost boot disk using Ghost Caster.  We have several times where it will timed out.  I have used the new version 2.5 trial and the results were not that different than the version I had 2.2.

Has anyone seen this before?  I am on the same switch as the Ghost Cast server and is on a gigabyte line.

Ghost started supporting Windows 7 and win2k8 from version 2.5.2 (i.e build 11.5.1.2269) and there should not be any problem with this build on Windows 7 imaging .

    Try with this latest version.

Does this mean that 11.5.1.2269 is required for running Ghost Console / Ghostcast Server on Windows 2008?  Especially if one is seeing slow or halted multicast Ghostcast sessions?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

    yogeshsadhu,

I Just received my licenses and have installed the lasted version from File-connect.  Checked the version in Ghostcast server and I have 11.5.1.2266,  How do I get the next patch because I have ran the updates already and it did not show that there is a newer version.

    Thank you.

The license version which you got i.e 11.5.1.2266 , is the one where Windows7 and 2008 support started, there is a one more patch 2269 which you can get from customer support , but you should be perform the imaging operations without the patch.

Give a try and let us know.

I have checked other blogs and found out that I needed to edit the Paramaters on the NIC when creating the boot disk using the wizard.

I have gotten it down to 1 hr from 6 hrs but I would  like to see it go down to 20-30 minutes to ghost desktops since I am running a gig line on the same switch.

If you are deploying the same image with newer version of ghost then you should get better or same speed.

I doubt you are using Windows 7 image instead of winXP which obviously much greater in size.

    Thanks,
