Slow restore using Netbackup
Hi,
I am experiencing a very slow restore performance ( 25MB) during the restore using Netbackup: here is the env description
Master AIX 5.x NBU 6.5.2
Media server Win2k SP2 NBU 6.5.2
Client Win2k NBU 5.1 MP
Amount of data to be restored : 35GB
the restore has been running for nearly 1 day and 4hours. This is ridicules to take such time to restore 35 GB worth of data and still carry on.
I checked the network connections, and they are running at 100 Full on the client box, and 1000/Full on the Win2k Netbackup Server. The tape drives are LTO3 drives.
It appears after further analysis of the bpbrm and bptm logs files that the restore "hangs" on a specific directory which I noticed that it takes a considerable amount of time to expand it through window Explorer.
At this stage I am not sure its a netbackup related issue or an OS.
Any help will be much appreciated
Many thanks
Antony

Do you know how long it took for backup? Restore usually takes longer than backup.
You may want to look at the multiplexing number you used for the backup.
Other than these, check for the buffer settings if these are still same as these were at the time of backup.

You should to set:
1. NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS
2. NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS_RESTORE
3. SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS
You can try with this (one media server):
1. 64
2. 64
4. 65536
thank you all for the suggestions.
These settings are already on all the media servers.
