Slow / Unrensponsive 7.1 console after the SP2 installation

  • 1.  Slow / Unrensponsive 7.1 console after the SP2 installation

    Posted Feb 27, 2012 05:35 PM

2 servers (1 for developement 1 for Production)

both have SMP 7.1 with CMS AMS and SMS installed.

    Dev & Production server Win2008 Ent R2 SP1 VM 4

Prod: 16 GB RAM Intel Xeon 2.53 GHz 8 Proc

Dev  :  4GB RAM  Intel Xeon 2.5 GHz 2 Proc

    Off Box SQL 2008 R2

After the 7.1 SP2 install on the Dev and Prod servers, the console will hang when tring to open the left pane tree for most of the console menus. To get anywhere else in the menus, I need to close the browser (IE8)  then reopen the console but quickly try to select the silverlight console.

However, The silverlight console seems to work fine.

Has anyone seen this problem? Or anyone know how to resolve it.

    Thanks

Did you install SP2 by selecting the entire Suite in 'Install new products'?

What happens in the Altiris Log Viewer when the console hangs?  This should provide useful information on where the problem is.

You can find useful information in altiris log viewer. Also check the EvtQue folders if you can see any Queue of .nse files there...

These servers are still in test. So they only have a couple of clients talking to them. And the silverlight console works fine. Any other tab/menu would hang after the page is loaded. It was working fine before. But maybe uninstalling the Dell Console components and/or installing CMS SP2 may have caused it.

I'm pretty sure that's how I did it. And I used the service account to do the install since that account is the DBO on the off box SQL server. So am I FUBAR?

I ready to start over and rebuild the VM servers. That will probably be a faster fix.

It is consistant. I upgraded from 7.1 CMS SP1 to SP2 on 3 servers. All of them have the same console hang up problem in Internet Explorer (IE8) on the server or Remote console. No errors are displayed IE becomes a unresponsive and glues forground windows into it. It hangs up n the Settings, Actions, and Reports menus.  The Home and Actions menus seem to work just fine.

I have to close the hung IE browser, then upon opening IE with the console page, I quickly have to click on a different menu so it will not hang up again.

I have open a case with Tech Support but have gotten no where for the past week.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

The Home and Manage menus work fine. I beleive those are Silverlight driven.

We had somewhat similar experience with IE9 browsers after the SP2 upgrade. The fix was to Reset Internet Explorer, including user data. After that the IE9 browsed with no issues. Are you seeing this slowness/hanging when accessing the console from the SMP server itself?

Yes the problem was on both server and remote consoles. Sure enough, right after I reset IE 8's settings back to default I'm able to browse through the menus alot more than before.  I was able to verify this by reproducing the console hang on each PC. Then reset IE, then try again without any hang ups!

    Thank you EMercado

Now if only Symantec can add that bit to the tech doc.
