Slowd B2D Backup

I have an issue with backup speed.

When i try to backup Folder that located on Local Disk D:, to Backup to disk folder on the same disk, i get speed near 100MB/s

But, if i copy the same data from the same location to folder on D: i get 200-250MB/s.

Disk D: connected to media server via SAN.

Where may be a problem? I look at Perfomance Monitor and don`t see any load on system, no load on CPU, no queue for disk operations.

If you have an AV on the server, make sure it excludes the B2D folder...also make sure the BE services are excluded from any active AV scanning.

Thanks!

No AV scanning...

Mmm...backing up from drive D:\ to a B2D on drive D:\...not such a good idea considering you're reading/writing quite intensively to the same drive.

What happens if you create a temporary B2D on C:\ and run a backup to that? Or any other drive with enough disk space...

Thanks!

Result the same, speed the same. I have check perfomance counters there is no load. Strange situation actualy...

OK, then stop all the BE services and run a backup through the built-in Windows backup utility. If it is slow there, then the problem doesn't lie with BE at all.

Any encryption or compression being used ? Is the disk heavily fragmented ?

How is the B2D configured ? For egs, have you enabled maximum size of the backup-to-disk files.. is backup job set to overwrite or append.. What is the size of the folder which you are trying to backup ? Try testing with a larger data set ( atleast 10gb)..

Any encryption or compression being used ? No it is not

How is the B2D configured ? I have tried 8 and 16 GB configuration.

Is the disk heavily fragmented?  2% fragmentation so it is not.

What is the size of the folder which you are trying to backup ? I have tried other source backups, it was even folders on media server on the same folder as deduplication folder, or on another local disk.

Symantec cannot help me, my case under investigation for 1 month even more.

Alex Zn,

Are you still having Backup Exec speed issues. Since you have been working with Symantec for more than a month I imagine you are updated to the most recent updates? Are you also on Backup Exec 2010 R3?
