Small Business Server 2003 protection

Hi,

I am currently setting up a small business server 2003 and have been looking at the various symantec products available.

I have been leaning towards the the Protection Suite Small Business Edition as this included the exchange server protection. However, the website info is not clear on wether this would work on SBS 2003. I also don't need the client backup facility as everything is going to be backed up through Windows Home Server and it only works on desktops and not servers.

I have been testing the Endpoint protection Small Business edition on a test build and this seem to work very well on SBS.

Is the exchange server protection an extra installation or is it install as part of the endpoint agent that is installed??

My other option was to purchase the full endpoint protection package and then buy the exchange server protection as well, but again, it doesn't mention anything about SBS 2003.

Any help/suggestions on the best products would be a great help.

Cost isn't really an issue, we just want the best product installing

Hi

Symantec small business will not protect your exchange, there is a different prodcut called symantec mail security..
Small business will only protect your emails; with the use of file system autoprotect
in SMB there a only few options; if you planning to buy and have large number of clients then you can go for Symantec endpoint protection 11.0

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-small-business-edition-12-vs-sep-11
System Requirements for Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12
can be installed on SMB

Thanks for the reply, we

Thanks for the reply,

we only have around 10 clients/servers to protect.

The "Protection Suite Small business edition" does include some form of exchange security as well as a client backup option.  However, it is unclear if this is the full mail security for exchange and it it would work on SBS 2003

I was considering going for SEP Small business edition and then also purchasing symantec mail security 6.0 for microsoft exchange.

If I was to go for the second option, would the mail security 6.0 report into the management server along with SEP??

Also what are the differences between SEP and SEP Small business edition and are they worth it??

It will work

We currently have SBS 2003 and purchased "Protection Suite Small Business Edition". It came with Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange and were are using it with our Exchange. Works fairly well too!

We also make use of the Backup Exec software and found that it works great aswell.

Brill, an all in one solution

Brill, an all in one solution that works. Just what I was after.

Does the backup exec software work on the servers or is it just for the desktop clients??

Desktops Only

Unfortunately it only works on desktop clients and not the server itself. They do offer a program that you could use to backup the server, but we do not have that one.

hi

Suite includes set of symantec products; your suite have mail security with it.
go to https://fileconnect.symantec.com
put ur serial number ; check what all products you have in your account.
Mail security will not report to sEP ; its not integrated as of now in future you wil  have one console for 1 all symantec product.

 No location awareness functionality
      Replication functionality is not there
SEP 12 supports Only single site type of deployment with Embedded Database
      No AD integration
      No GUP functionality
      SQL is not supported.
Client communication mode cannot be changed.
No option to add password to stop the smc service from the SPC.
No option to add a Management server list
      No option to add Domain
      Database configuration is hidden.
There is no option to configure a Internal live update server .
Firewall Rules/Policy has been scaled down.

Yes; its for servers and clients; we need to back up all :)

I have just taken the plunge

I have just taken the plunge and ordered 22 licenses for the protection suite.

It looks like it does pretty much all that I want it to do.

I will have to compare the backup client against WHS.  The continuous backup sounds a good way to protect the user data over WHS, but it may boil down to backup storage space.  This is where WHS is very efficient..

Thanks for all the help
