Small Business Server 2011 and Symantec Endpoint V11

Hi,

I currently have a SBS 2011 Server which i am using to host my own exchange and server files etc around my network.

Before today i had been running it without any antivirus but had the firewall enabled, all was sweet and worked perfectly.

I decided however that it was a better idea to have some kind of antivirus on it as that is where i download everything to.

A friend of my kindly gave me a copy of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 to try so i installed the management console on the server and that pushed the client out to all machines, however since installing i am unable to stuf the net.

When i try to go to a webpage i get a DNS error saying it was unreachable. (Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address.)

I am pulling my hair out trying to fix this. From what i can see i have setup the ports correctly and open them all for the DNS etc. I have also stopped the windows firewall but nothing!

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the problem!

Cheers

Question and Suggestion.

Hello,

This error message indicates that the client computer was unable to get a DNS response from the DNS server.

It is very important to know what version of Symantec Endpoint Protection have you installed on this SBS 2011 Server??

Is that Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.0.4202, 11.0.5002, 11.0.6300 or 11.0.7000 or 12.1?

Hi Cnewton2k, SBS 2011 is

Hi Cnewton2k,

SBS 2011 is definitely supported with SEP 11 RU5 and above:

Support for Symantec Endpoint Protection and Windows Small Business Server 2011
Article: TECH156294
Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH156294

Here is another recommended article as well:

Best Practices documents for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 on Microsoft Small Business Server Article: TECH104584

"Thumbs up" to the advice about checking the firewall logs.  There's no reason why SEP should cause DNS errors on that server when installed with its default settings.

Please do keep this thread up-to-date with your progress!

Thanks and best regards,

Mick

You also might want to think

You also might want to think about buying the product as we shouldn't be providing technical support for an illegal copy of SEP.

Agreed. If you are interested

Agreed.

If you are interested in testing out the product before purchasing it, you should download a copy of the trialware from our website.

While you're out it, you should test out Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 rather than 11.0.x. The newer version is much improved.
