  • 1.  "smc -start" doens't start SEP automatically

    Posted Dec 05, 2011 10:08 AM

On numerous occcasions, I have noticed that when I need to shut down SEP, using

    smc -stop

    It works fine.

However, when I try to start SEP using

    smc -start

    It doesn't start up.

Instead, I have to go to Start > Program Files > Symantec Endpoint Protection, and then I get a pop-up,

"It appears that Symantec Management Client service is not running....Do you want to start the service now?"

Is there a way to resolve this, such that smc -start will bring up the service?

I had the same issue some time back, So i rebooted the machine and that made things go back to normal.. It seemed like the services were stuck halfway.

There has to be a way to start smc.exe without rebooting.

Especially when creating scripts to silently run on a remote user's computer.

Normally you should be able to start SMC without having to reboot. If you are experiencing this on just one client, you can try doing a repair to the client through add/remove and if that doesn't resolve, then completely uninstall SEP, remove all SEP folders and then reinstall SEP.

    Hello,

Did you try what happens if you ran the same command twice?

Usually, I would suggest you to try the command smc -start again.

I am sure that would help you.

smc -start doesn't show any message it starts the service silently.

but if you start sep from program files it shows a message with option yes or no.

use  smc -start at run option from start menu .

if you want to start smc from command promt then go to the sep directory and then execute the command
