I get this error on about 25% of monitored servers.  No rhyme or reason on the server or the alert, just that I cannot resolve the errors.  The screen cap is below.

    Just some initial clarification.

Do you get this error when trying to resolve/aknowledge alerts in Event Console?

What version of Monitor solution do you have installed in your environment?

Is it possible to get NS/Altiris Agent logs related to this shown error?

    Hi,

    1. If you see a heartbeat alert from monitored resource on your Event Console, then it might be caused due:

-- ULM Agent on Linux Server is crashed or killed and isn't running

-- Symantec management Agent on Windows server is crashed or killed and isn't running

-- MetricProvider is crashed and isn't running on Linux or Windows Server.

    2. If you're not able to connect to monitored server via Real Time Performance Viewer, then it might be caused due:

-- MetricProvider is crashed and isn't running on your Windows or Linux Server.

-- Make sure that this monitored server has at least 1 activated monitor policy where metric returns numeric or test or port value.

-- Default 1011 port is closed and is not available on your monitored resource (check firewall) therefore to open Real Time Performance Viewer for this monitored server, you need to make this 1011 port opened and not firewalled.

    Solution:

You can perform such check using a Symantec Management Console (in case if RTSM is installed on your NS Server)

    Steps to check:

-- Open Event Console -> click on alert -> mouse right click menu -> click on port check
-- On port check window click on “Configure Ports” -> click “Add Port” -> specify 1011 port and name -> save changes.
-- After port check execution it will shows whether 1011 port is closed or opened.

    Thanks,

    IP.
