  • 1.  SMCGUI.exe Error when shutting down

I have a user that when they shutdown their laptop, they receive multiple message boxs with the following text.

Application Popup:  SmcGui.exe - DLL initialization failed:  the application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down.

I have uninstalled, rebooted then re-installed SEP11  (11.0.5002.333) with no change.  It seems that SEP11 is working fine other than this one issue.

Any thoughts?  The PC is a Lenovo T430 laptop with Windows XP SP3.

    Thanks for your time

This is a very old version and this was an issue from what I remember. You should upgrade to 11 RU7 MP3 or go to 12.1 RU3

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately, I can not upgrade as we are restricted by corporate on what version we can use/install.  We have a standard image, that is pushed out to all equipment and this error is not happening on the other stations of the same vintage.

I did notice there was a known issue with ccapp.exe on shut down in other posts on this forum, but figured that didn't apply here as the faulting module is different.  Any other thoughts before I do a complete OS rebuild of the unit?
