  • 1.  S/MIME Certificate Expiration, Renewal

    Hey All

We are testing the Symantec S/MIME certificates so that we can send encrypted email in outlook. I have 2 questions regarding the certificates

    1) Can we still access S/MIME Encrypted emails in outlook when the S/MIME certificate expires or if its revoked?

    2) Can we renew a Symantec S/MIME Certificate after one year? Or do we have to order a completely new one?

We are simply ordering these certificates from this website here http://www.symantec.com/digital-id and using them as needed, this is not PGP and is not run with/by a key management server.

    THanks,

    Robert

Thanks for the reponse. I will take a look at the provided links. However my question is specific to S/MIME only and does not involve PGP or any related services.

    Thanks,

    Hi Robert,

    1) Can we still access S/MIME Encrypted emails in outlook when the S/MIME certificate expires or if its revoked?

You should be able to decrypt and read old messages but of course you will not be able to send an encrypted email(s).

    2) Can we renew a Symantec S/MIME Certificate after one year? Or do we have to order a completely new one?

You slo should be able to renew Symantec Cert(s) as well following below link please:

    https://digitalid.verisign.com/  (Renew Now)

    or

    http://www.symantec.com/verisign/ssl-certificates
