SMP Agent behavior (bandwith)

Hi !

I have a customer who asked me an interesting question...

He has a big question about detection of the bandwith and throttling, on its travellers computers.

He asked me what is the behavior when a traveller disconnect his computer from the LAN, to reconnect after in mobile network (3G, GPRS), and if a download is in course. He has a big afraid to 'destroy' the bandwith of its computer, and the traveller can't work...

His wish will to detect this disconnection / reconnection as soon as possible to adapt the bandwith available...

Is my question clear ?

Does anyone has practice its behavior, or precisions ?

Thanks a lot

I'm pretty sure the agent detects disconnection and reconnection

events and recalculates bandwidth each time (using ping). It will then apply the agent throttling settings if set and applicable.

You can test this by unplugging and reconnectiong the network cable and looking at the Agent log file. Use the Remote Altiris Agent Diagnostics (RAAD) utility or install the logviewer msi to make looking at the log file easier.

Four triggers initiate a speed test

There are four triggers that initiate a speed test:

If you disconnect from a network and reconnect from another network, certainly that will initiate a new speed test.
