We have installed an SMP 7.1 SP2 system and currently have approx 70 devices reporting to it. We plan on migrating the enterprise over soon however we have been having an issue with the Inventory on the client devices running there inventory twice. The clients run the inventory at it's scheduled time and then run again on the same day at some random time. I have opened a case with symantec and they instructed me to upgrade to MP 1.1 which I did on our dev system but the result is the same. Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

I know of one recent case - the upcoming MP1 v2 rollup will address this issue.

So is this an additional update beyond MP 1.1 because I've already applied that and the issue remains. Any idea on the timeframe?

Yes - this will be the next update. I don't have a date I can share yet, but the team responsible for it is actively working on getting it ready.

I'm running SMP 7.1 SP2 MP1 (with no rollups applied) where I'm seeing inventory run twice but not universally on all of my clients.  Any insight as to why some machines are affected and not others?

Also, is this double inventory too much of a burden to not apply the v2 rollup right now?  Instead of applying a rollup which isn't fully regression tested, is an MP2 release being planned or perhaps SP3 before version 7.5 is made available?

I have 7.1 SP2 MP1 rollup 2 installed and I can confirm that this still happens. 

The document linked above now references Rollup 4 but shows inventory issue as being fixed in Rollup 3:

I'm applying Rollup 4 next week as there are LOTS of fixes and performance improvements. 
 

To answer your other question I have not heard whether or not another maintenance pack is slated for release before 7.5 but given the timing it would be reasonable.
