  • 1.  SMP7.1 - Need to create computer filter based on user Security Group

    Posted Jan 17, 2014 10:55 AM

We were just tasked to target the computers for the people in the Managers Security group in AD.  Has someone been able to successfully do this?

It would be nice if I could import a Security Group (since it already exists) and then associate the computers they use,

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Either use an AD Import rule to import computers from that security group (you can also have the SMP map primary user to machines if you like), or create an ADSI filter that does the same thing (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-create-active-directory-filters-without-using-ad-import-rule).

If using an AD Import filter, I would not target the actual filter but would instead create a clone of that filter and target that, so as not to experience any problems when the AD Import runs again.

    Steve,

You can also leverage the AD User Import rule and map it to the AD user memberof attribute...

Check out the attached document for details...

SK and WDRAIN1 - thank you for your comments!

Turns out, I was able to target the security groups in the AD import process and check the box the import the Users-to-Machines.

These are then found under Manage > Filters > Notification Server Filters > Directory Filters > {domain.name}Filter > Security Groups  with a second folder containing the computers.

I then used these filters in my managed sofftware delivery policy and it has worked great.

Sorry for the delays in responding back here.
