Whoa!

Hey Paul,

Let's slow this down, you mention the SMS 8300, not sure if you realize the name has changed but the product is now called the Symantec Brightmail Gateway.  Can you give us a bit of context here, are you currently evaluating the product or have you been given the role of now administering one?  Can you tell us what version you are running, that will impact the answers to the questions.  Have you taken a read through the administration guide?  Think you'll find pretty much everything you are looking for in there.

Cheers,

Kevin

Hello,

The allowed and blocked list can be exported from the user interface. In 7.7 it's under "Sender Groups" and in 8.0 it's under the "Reputation" tab. When you go in to the list, there is an export button. This exports a .txt file that you can then import back to another server.

The list is all of the allowed and blocked senders from this section of the UI, so no need to export multiple.

Re

Hi Tom, we are using Symantec Mail Security for Windows and we are migrating to 8360. Does it have an export feature?

Me too

I'm also installing a Brightmail Gateway. I'm up to the point where I need to specify local domains. When I click on next I get the message " /!\ The domain is not a valid email address or domain. "

The appliance right now is in the test lab and have no connection to the internet or the exchange server. We just need to set it up in running order before connecting it in the DMZ.

Hello,

Yes, Symantec Mail security for SMTP version 5.x has an export feature in the "Sender Groups" section as well.

You should be able to export the allowedblockedlist.txt file from version 5 and import it in to version 8 of the appliance. This is generally not going to work with configurations, but this list hasn't really changed over the versions.

mon_raralio, I don't know if we are talking about the same thing in this thread. If you have another specific question not related to this thread please post a new topic.

Thanks!
