SMS Active Directory Notification Agent
Updated: 17 Sep 2010 | 6 comments
When I try and start the above agent I get the following error message
"Could not start the SMS Active Directory Notification Agent service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
Any ideas on what could be causing this? We noticed this after rebooting our server this morning.
We are running Symantec Mail Secuirty for SMTP and it appears that the last successful LDAP Synchronization occurred on February 21, 2010 and we cannot complete one without that service running.

This question/issue appears
This question/issue appears for be for SMS SMTP which is an end of life product. We would recomend switching to another product that is support such as Bright Mail Gateway.
As this is question is not for Mail Security for Exchange or Domino i am going to move this thread to the bright mail gateway section as it is a related product to the SMTP 5 and someone there may be better able to answer this question.
As Ben already pointed out,
As Ben already pointed out, it is best to consider moving to Symantec Brightmail Gateway (SBG) to get full support.

SBG is a much more capable
SBG is a much more capable product than SMS SMTP v5. Is you are running SMTP v5 on Windows you might be able to deploy SBG on the same hardware using VMWare.
