    Hi,

I have a NS 7.1 SMS policy that got pushed to about 90 systems. I needed to change a file. I have since gone ahead and done that and the new file is out on the respective package servers. How can I get the file updated on the client systems? Will Altiris do it for me or am I stuck? I know the NS can update the site servers, but can the site servers update the client systems if a file changes?

The Symantec Management Agent will only change updated package files if the command line is run again, this can be a dummy command like:

    CMD /C "dir"

The SMS policy is set to run daily to check for compliance. Would that trigger a re-download?

Not if it's compliance. You wouldn't normally want to download the package if the Policy was in compliance.

I meant to say Detection rule, but it sounds like what your saying is what I was afraid of. To me if the Site Servers can see a change off the file librrary on the NS then the clients should check for a file change as well. It seems like this is a one time download and forget it

You wouldn't clients downloading software they're not going to use, so if the Detection Rule says In Compliance then there's no point in downloading the package that's not going to be used.

If you are using a Policy just to keep a particular set of files on the PC up to date just have the detection rule detect for the version of the package itself and run a dummy command with a Type of "Install" with a schedule to match how often you want the check to be done.
