  • 1.  Is SMTP Prevent messing up our PDF attachments?

We have Brightmail Gateway integrated with Vontu SMTP Prevent.

There are certain email messages that contain PDF attachments that somehow get messed up by the time they reach their recipients (outside of the company).

When the recipients try to open the attachments, they get error messages about the missing fonts.

The symptoms are very similar to when these PDF files are copied from one computer to another computer using ASCII copy instead of Binary copy.

I am suspecting that either Brightmail or Vontu SMTP Prevent are messing up these attachments.

And I tend to think that Vontu may be a stronger suspect (after all we already had another incident with when Vontu screwed up outgoing mail by embedding messages within another message).

Could you confirm that these PDF files are not violated the policy on DLP or the rules on SBG?

My suggestion is: send out a PDF file that you can confirm that the content doesn't violate the DLP's policy, then check out this file on the recipients. If the PDF file is also messed, then this issue is not related to the DLP.

Good Response by Yang_zhang and I would add that for at least DLP 10.5.2 we have not seen this behavior... but then we don't use BrightMail.

Also, if possible check your logs and see what processing is being done by DLP when it "reviews" the message.
