Hi,

current setup:

master server : windows 2k3 enterprise; Netbackup 6.5.3 with enterprise client license
client: w2k3, 6.5.3 client, application which uses fileshare(consists of more number of small files)

Fileshare on the client is 500 GB and i am planning to go for Snapshot backup with VSS method.

polciy attributes select are
MSwindows-NT
perform snapshot backups is checked and VSS method is selected under snapshot options

now the question is
how much extra space is required snapshot to backup that 500 Gb volume using VSS method?
which drive will it use to create the snapshot?
will the the host properties settings for client attributes will help me in any way ?
if the way i am backing it up is wrong, what would be the best way to back it up?

more information would be provided if required.

Snapshot backup.

Regarding your query on sanpshot backup.

It will use the drive which has the maxium free space available.
Yes under client attributes you need to specify windows open file backup option and use the VSS option to run the snapshot backups.
After checking the policy and its attributes i believe the backup should run fine.

Thanks

Ashish

good

if that is the case; if i try to backup a single drive(fieshare drive) and want to use a seperate drive for snapshot.
if i allocate one new drive; will that drive used for snapshot?
if so; what would be size of that drive for a 500 Gb open file backup?
also when i select use golbal drive fro snapshot under host properties of master server; is there any way to select to use a specific drive for snapshots

regards, Srikanth.

Clarified

what ashish was refering is right; It will use the drive which has the maxium free space available and article has provided the right link to technet, using vssadmin command you can see how much storage volume is used during backup.
