Snapshots on Media Server Drives

Hi

I've been setting up snapshots across our server farm to get backups working well. However I've read somewhere that snapshots are not required when the disk being backed up is local to the media server. Is someone able to confirm this for me please? If this is the case, then does this also apply when the "local" disk is actually a NAS drive presented to the OS as a local disk via a RAID driver?

Thanks

Hi,

You'll always get snapshots as Windows Server 2003 and above use VSS...

If, by snapshots, you are referring to Advanced Open File Option, then AOFO does help data/System State etc. backups, but can cause issues with DBs. In this case, it's recommended to not use AOFO.

Thanks!
