  • 1.  Software Compliance for SQL Installs

    Posted Jan 11, 2011 05:19 PM

I am wondering if anyone out there has had a chance, while working with Asset 7.x, to do software compliance on SQL servers. While the task sounds easy, it has quickly stumped me. With SQL I need to be able to show compliance for Dev, Prod, and DR servers(Virtual and physical types) which all need to be shown together in a compliance report. I figured I would see what the community thinks on this....

    Thanks in advance!!

I'll be interested to see if anyone comes up with some magic to accomplish this.  It is a painstaking manual task for us.

You also have to take into account any "Tools Only" installations on clients and such (they don't need to be licensed, but if they were installed from full media they will display the same as sever installs in Add or Remove Programs).

Also, and here's a fun one, if you have SQL installed on any virtual servers that are in a cluster (such as to take advantage of features such as HA, FT or DRS in VMware), and are using processor licensing, you need to have a processor license for EVERY SOCKET of every virtual host in the cluster.  Not a fun thing to try to account for in an Altiris report.

Good luck, it quickly stumped me as well.
