Software control
Updated: 26 May 2010 | 2 comments
Hi,
Need some information if this CMS able to restrict software installation on PC? I would like to control that only legitimate software are able to be installed on the PC. There seems not much information on this and I wonder if CMS can do this. If cannot, is there any other Altiris software that can do this? Reason I am looking at Altiris is because in my company enviroment, we are already running Altiris Notification Server. I would like to see if there is any Altiris product that can run together with it to ease the support in the future.
Please give some suggestion if possible. Thanks.
Regards,

This would be a bit difficult
with a pure Altiris solution. Application Metering is the closest, where you can blacklist and\or deny applications. Symantec Endpoint Protection has an application control feature, but again it is geared more towards blocking single instances.
One product you might want to take a look at is Savant Protection. It takes a 'whitelist' approach, where you essentially block everything except approved sources. It has integration with Altiris and Windows Update.

Application Control is the
Application Control is the product you are looking for. It's available as a separete solution from Altiris and can be tightly integrated in the Altiris products. It basicly allows a White, Grey Black list appraoch to where you can lock down a PC to only a white list that you allow, or Grey list apps which can run but only with the current users rights rather than being elevated like a White listed app.
