  • 1.  Software Management Rule to Install or upgrade Adobe Reader with condition

    Posted Apr 09, 2014 05:06 PM

Good afternoon everyone.  I have this request that came across my desk and not sure how to construct a Detection Rule.

Systems that do not have Adobe Reader XI (11.0.6).  These can be systems with no Reader or a older version.  Run a install to bring those current BUT

If Adobe Acroabt is already installed to not try to install Reader.

    Any ideas?

Use the product id's of both apps. Use an applicable rule to detect systems that have or do not have acrobat. Use a detection rule to for the reader version.

    Hi,

Please read more about detection rules on this page: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/technical-white-paper-inventory-rules-detection-and-applicability-checks

Please note that detection check works only for Managed Delivery Policy (quick delivery task or package delivery task do not use detection rules)

Thanks to both of you for the insight.  So would I create a App Rule that says:

    AND

    NOT

    <Adobe acrobat file found>

    ?

    Hi again,

Try to use Static File Expression smart rule to detect some adobe file on client computer, if it will be more than some value.

And use this rule as Detection check as if file will be missed or not met the condition, Managed Delivery policy will install the software.

    rule should be:

    AND

    - rule

    Regards,
