    Posted Oct 11, 2011 09:28 AM

    Hi all,

Running SMP 7.1 and having a problem on a single machine with Software Update Agent version 7.1.2306 (Patch Management 7.1 SP1).

This machine is reporting in properly, and the agent looks fine.  However, the software updat plug-in reports that it's not ready.  I've tried taking all of the agents off cleanly using aexagentutil /uninstallagents /clean and then putting it back on, but the software update plug-in never initializes properly.

    See attached.

    Any thoughts?

    Have you reviewed these causes?

First of all, observe client logs for any errors or other evidences of what's going wrong. In addition to http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH158125 article, please verify that Default Software Update Plug-in Policy has reached the problematic client.

Do You have Cloned Default Software Update Plug-in Policies? If so, please check policy target, if it really has this computer included.

Also, if there are cloned SWU Plugin Policies, could You please attach a screenshot of Target Filters

for this policy, like the one attached? Or just list of filters, used in this target.

    Thank You!

    Hi,

Here are some errors from the agent logs.

Please keep in mind that I removed the agent clean using aexagentutil /clean /uninstallagents and then reinstalled.

I have verified that the agent does not get the policy (attached)

I have verified that the machine is in the proper target (attached)

Filter summary shows the machine is being seen as a member of the proper filter.

Yes, this policy is cloned, but there are 19 other machines in here all getting this policy and running it properly.

Thank you very much for your help.

This suggests that you should run the install manually:
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH42497

While this KB suggests a repair:
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH158183

I'd try the manual install first in TECH42497 before doing TECH158183.

    Hi,

As it is seen from Your info and screenshots, the client has problems receiving the Plugin Policy - either it is somehow not targeted, or corrupted policy received. Please, try following things, that could help:

    1. Restart Altiris Agent on problematic client - and see, if SWU Plugin loaded.

    2. Do You have 'Default Filter for Software Update Plugin Policy' filter used in Target 'CIT - Patch Management Test Group'? If so, please change it to some other filter, like 'Windows Computers with Software Update Agent Installed'. Run 'Delta Resource Membership Update' and refresh policies on client after that.

    3. If 1. and 2. do not help - we would kindly ask You to attach here client files: Agent.Log, and Client Policy XML, which is located in C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Client Policy\<server>.xml

    Thanks in advance,

    Serge

From a known good Software Update Plug-in, export the XML and import the XML over.
