if I get sollution suite 2.5 , get a license, do the live update, will it allow me to make  ghost bootable cd's and dvd's that I can image 64 bit OS's like win 7 ?

right now the trialware only allows 32 bit.

64 bit operating systems can be imaged using a 32 bit WinPE boot, and a 32 bit Ghost client - as all you are doing is reading hard disk sectors, the content of which is mostly not relevant to the imaging process.

A 64 bit Ghost client is only required when "Hot Imaging" a 64 bit operating system as then the client is running on the operating system itself.

The eval version of GSS 2.5.1.at build 2266 should be able to image 64 bit Win 7 from a 32 bit WinPE boot.

Trialware has a lot of limitations .The full version should support both 64 and 32 bit OS .

Under Pre-OS Ghost should just look the local hard drive as a file system .OS should not be a concern.

If the File System is among the following, imaging should happen ,

    FAT 16/32

    NTFS

    EXT 2/3

Else the only option is to take a sector image .

WIN7 64 & 32 bit are supported when you use the latest version 11.5.1.2266

    Maneesh

so is 11.5.1.2266 the Ghost version ?

how do I get this version. if I buy the trialware license to upgrade to a full version, then do live up date, then will I have 11.5.1.2266 ?

I believe the trialware is already at the latest level, but you are indeed correct that the LiveUpdate process will bring any earlier version up to build 11.5.1.2266.

Trialware has to be uninstalled before installing the full version .

11.5.1.2266 is the latest version ,however there are a few patch updates ,which could be obtained if you have a support contract .

I bought the sollution suite and it is registered. I saw this posted by Nigel, the creator of the sollution suite::    my question is at the end

The different builds of Ghost are for the different platforms used to perform the image operation, not the type of image to deploy. When Ghost deploys a system, it doesn't care at all what the content of the image is, you just need the right version for the OS you're running as a boot environment to do the deploy operation.

So, for instance, the Linux version of Ghost is for running in a Linux boot environment, but it can deploy Windows (either 64-bit or 32-bit) just fine, because Ghost's job is laying down the image content and it doesn't care what the image content is. Similarly, you can deploy a 64-bit OS from a 32-bit Windows PE just fine by running the 32-bit version of Ghost (or the deployed OS can be a version of .Linux).

So, the reason for the failure is that OS you booted to do the deployment is 32-bit Windows PE, not 64-bit Windows PE. If you boot a 32-bit version of Windows, you should run the 32-bit version of Ghost on it.

The reason for including a 64-bit version of Ghost is for running inside 64-bit Windows, which matters in a couple of specific scenarios; the most important of these is that there is hardware using a special boot system called EFI, and on at least some of these machines it's necessary to use 64-bit Windows PE instead of 32-bit Windows PE. The 64-bit version of Windows PE, unlike regular 64-bit Windows, does not include the WOW64 system which lets you run 32-bit executables, on 64-bit Windows PE a native 64-bit build of Ghost is required.

For most users who aren't using this specialized EFI hardware, 32-bit Windows PE runs just fine on 64-bit processors and on that you use the 32-bit build of Ghost to deploy whatever needs deploying.

....so if I image a 64 bit OS to a DVD or other media will I need to use Ghost 64

...if I do need to make a ghost 64 boot cd/dvd i guess I need to do it from a sollution suite installed on a 64 bit machine ...or will it create on a 32 bit ?   I did not see the option, just created a 32 bit ghodt boot cd on the sollution ctr on a 32 bit OS.

....so if I image a 64 bit OS to a DVD or other media will I need to use Ghost 64

No, any version - of any word size, of any platform - of the Ghost imaging tools will work. As per EdT, 64-bit Ghost is used in a few circumstances (which happen automatically if you use the GSS console management environment) and you never need to worry about those unless you're doing something really unusual. Pretty much any of the various flavous of boot disks built by the Ghost Boot Wizard will basically "just work" if you're restoring from optical disk - it's only restoring things over the network where you may need to customize the boot disks to put network drivers in the right place.

.if I do need to make a ghost 64 boot cd/dvd i guess I need to do it from a sollution suite installed on a 64 bit machine ...or will it create on a 32 bit ?

Ghost Solution Suite doesn't work differently or install different things depending on the OS it's installed on; any version of GSS installed on any version of Windows can produce the same boot disks and has the same pieces included. The boot disks that GSS builds are all 32-bit, because unless you are working *specially* with x64 EFI systems (which weren't around for anyone to buy, or us to design things for, when we made GSS 2.5)  those are all you need.

In the unlikely event you are working specifically with systems that need x64 EFI boot environments, then that may need you to do more, but that's all well documented (if you are working with EFI systems then you'll want to understand the concept of EFI boot variables, because current versions of Ghost won't fix those up for you; however, there's plenty of documentation around the web for that).

Ghost64 can be used with WINPE 64 ,if you create one using WAIK .The boot disks created with Ghost Boot Wizard will not use Ghost64 in any case.
