    Hello,

I would like to ask for your help. We have upgraded to SEPM 12.1.6 two days ago. Since then I faced one issue connected with GUP. Only one GUP is affected (75 GUPs in our SEPM). Some machines connected to mentioned GUP are updating and some of them not. When I restart smc services on the GUP situation makes better but not for too long. I checked log on GUP machine and I found something strange:

08/28 03:21:21.713 [992:4448] GUProxy: Begin to handle accepted socket 4648
    08/28 03:21:21.713 [992:4448] GUPROXY - GUProxy HTTP in - GET /content/{263395A0-D3D8-4be4-80B5-202C94EF4AA0}/130708001/xdelta13
    08/28 03:21:21.713 [992:4448] GUPROXY - GUProxy File - /content/{263395A0-D3D8-4be4-80B5-202C94EF4AA0}/130708001/xdelta130708001_To_150302005.dax
08/28 03:21:21.713 [992:4448] GUProxy content cached - sending to client
    08/28 03:21:21.713 [992:4448] GUProxy send SOCKET_ERROR [10014]

This lines in GUP log repeat very often. It seems that clients requesting old definition, am I right?

    {263395A0-D3D8-4be4-80B5-202C94EF4AA0}: SEPC Iron Settings 12.1 RU6 - MicroDefsB.CurDefs - SymAllLanguages

How can I solve it? I do not see this kind of issue on other GUPs.

Have you tried running a repair on the SEP client which acts as a GUP?

This was a known issue but fixed in 12.1.6

What do you mean 'repair'? Add/remove programs and there repait Symantec client?

Forget mentioned that GUPs still run in previous version - 12.1.1000.157. We have plan to migrate soon.

    Hi,

It seems after SEPM upgrade smc has started crashing on GUP machine & there is a bug fix in SEP 12.1 RU2 as well

The SMC service terminates on Group Update Providers
    Fix ID: 2722802
Symptom: For Symantec Endpoint Protection client computers acting as Group Update Providers, the SMC service terminates. If you manually restart the service, it terminates again in two hours.
Solution: Modified SMC to prevent a crash when the client is a Group Update Provider.

I would recommend upgrade affected GUP to the latest SEP version 12.1 RU6 MP1a.

We have almost all GUPs upgraded now and no issues appear. Thanks
