This issue has been solved. See solution.

So, for easy way I have 1 server based on Windows server 2012. On this server are Symantec Backup Exec 2012 with agent for Hyper-V and of course Hyper-V with 1 virtual machine. I tru to do backup of this machine, but i have an error:

Backup- Datacenter.xxxx.comV-79-57344-34070 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "VRTSRV::\\test.contoso.local\Hyper-V?Virtual?Machine\test". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

0xE0008516: Resources specified for snapshot do not have any valid data on them. Check if files were deleted or renamed.

My version of Backup Exec is trial, we want to buy it< but first of all we  try to understand all functions of this software, but without tests it is impossible. Please explain how to solve this problem.

Thank You.

Thank you very much. It is a pitty that 2012 server in not supported:( I woult like to know, windows server 2012 is not supported as the platform for back up exec server or just agent for it or both?

For example I'll install agent Exchange on  Windows server 2008 and try to get backup from Symantec Exec Server (Windows Server 2012). It will be works?

...an agent-level backup should work as it would bypass Win2K12, but backing up the VMs from Hyper-V probably won't work. A few people here have managed to get it working, but you'd get no support and it might be unstable. For backups, and especially restores, this wouldn't be the place you'd want to be!

Hi hlam2009,

The best way to get the most up todate information on Windows 2012 support is to sign up for the public beta release in May.
