some swv 6.1problems

DavidXanatos's picture

Hi,
I'm testing the swv 6.1 for wome time now and have noticed some minor problems:
1 if you edit a lwaer, cut -> paste works like copy -> paste, it does not delete the original!
2 deteting some folders in th elayer edit window resulted in alocked unerasable folder toll next reboot.
3 sometimes when deleting (unvirtualised) stuff in explorer i also get such lockupd folders, reboot, turning all layers of or remounting the volume solves it, 2.1 also head this issue

PS: I'm missign the long time in the altiris forum prommissed registry excludes :'( why havn't thay mede it into the new version?

#1 has always been in the

#1 has always been in the product.
#2 can you give example\step by step guide how to replicate

I never remember Registry excludes as a promised 6.1 feature only a planned feature--meaning there's a good chance they'll eventually make it into the product but no date has been set.

so 1 is intended? 2 is not

so 1 is intended?
2 is not deterministicaly replicable it just happens form time to time and when it happens the app freeses and have to be killed afterwards the directory is not erasable till next reboot.

I remember regisry excluses to be mentioned as likely to be in v3 but i guess this was befoure symantec.
I just thought it would be great and now I'm a little bit dissapointed that the new version does not provide this.

#1 intended no?  but it's

#1 intended no?  but it's never been a high priority to fix and we have limited resources.

Dono what to say about registry excludes except that if you want them in make some noise, the more people mention a feature to their sales rep or under the ideas section on Connect the higher up it moves on the feature list.

I think registry excludes

I think registry excludes would be very helpfull, you could exclude all the uninterresting locations like theShellNoRoam, MountPoints2, RecentDocs, StreamMRU, etc
that would make capturing much easyer as you wouldn't have to cleanup the layer manyualy after creation.

More prolems: 4 sometimes

More prolems:
4 sometimes after activating a layer does not work in this case I head a reminding directory under programm files that i remved and afterwards activated a layer that would have exactly in that place a direcotry and this directory wasn't availbable. untill i deactivated all layers and reactivated them
5 when I add "Anwendungsdaten\Mozilla" to excludes for firefox 3.5 it does nto work it says that it cat access this files.

Edit: regarding my problem 5 it occures when the ecxluded directory is wlready present in the layer,
like wheny ou start the app for the first time it makes some profile files, than you decice to have this real, deactivate the layer exclude the path and the activate it and well forget to remove the now unneded copy of the files form the layer.

EDIT 2: One more problem when I move a FileRedirect path to a truecrypt volume the app in the layer does not work, it seams that the driver cant see the path.

EDIT 3: changes done to directories in my user profile are not saved in the layer in the correct locations but instead system->driveletter->path.
for example when I save to sesktop its not saved to User->LONG user ID->[Desktop] but to system->u:\Profile\desktop
it may be important to say that my userprofile is contained ona Trucrypt volume

We don't support working with

We don't support working with any encryption software that uses mounted folders and other like features (caused by junction points) which I believe truecrypt uses.

I haven't been able to replicate the exclude issues or the folder delete issue with the latest version of 6.1, I'm not sure if it's because the issue has been fixed (with the folder delete) or if you were using truecrypt with that problem as well as the excludes (I thought I'd check those without truecrypt just to be sure there were no issues).

the folder deleting issue occured under C:\Progremme\... what is a norlam folder on a normal drive nothing to do with truecrypt.

here are our list of bugs we noticed with 6.1

Below is some of the issues with have noticed with SWV editing interface

1. Can’t full screen the editing interface
2. Could not drag and copy, only could drag and move. Right click copy and then pasting did work
3. Moving folders around in the interface gave different results
4. No refresh in the interface causes folders to be sorted out of order
5. The ? in the top the editing tool doesn’t work
6. Folder with nothing in them sometime has a + next to them when they are empty

Wise Package Studio is a much better interface for editing packages . Plus you can then repackage with global exclusion lists.
Symantec should remove the SWV ediiting interface and use the Wise Package Studio editor. This is enterpise level repacking tools not what SWV editing interface is
