  • 1.  SONAR enabled but SONAR Status: Not Installed

    Posted Dec 19, 2011 04:19 PM

I recently upgraded from 12.0 to 12.1UR.  I've gone through our policies and enabled all of the protective technologies, including SONAR, Download Protection, and Auto-Protect.  However, when I go to Computers tab and select the Protection Technology View, it tells me SONAR Status, Network Intrusion Prevention, Browser Intrusion Prevention (IE and FF) are all  Not installed.  I'm confused on whether these technologies are enabled and in use in our network.  Any advise appreciated.

    Hello,

    SONAR has the following dependencies:

    • Download Protection must be installed.

    • Auto-Protect must be enabled.

If Auto-Protect is disabled, SONAR loses some detection functionality and appears to malfunction on the client. SONAR can detect heuristic threats, however, even if Auto-Protect is disabled.

    • Insight lookups must be enabled.

Without Insight lookups, SONAR can run but cannot make detections. In some rare cases, SONAR can make detections without Insight lookups. If Symantec Endpoint Protection has previously cached reputation information about particular files, SONAR might use the cached information.

Probably, you may like to read this Article:

    To Pete: Yes, I rebooted.

    Mithun,

As I stated in my original post, I went through Policies and explicitly made sure that SONAR, Download Protection, and Auto-Protect were all enabled.  Despite this, these features show as disabled in the Protection Technology View under Computers tab.

Okay, it looks like there was some confusion when setting up Feature Sets?  I may have selected "Servers - Basic Protection".  This leads me to the following question: I cannot find any documentation on the differences between "Servers - Basic Protection" and "Servers - Full Protection".  What is specifically enabled and disabled in each of these Feature Sets?  Is this documented somewhere?

    Thank you,

    Tim
