  • 1.  SP5 Agent constantly writing error logs

    I'm working with a customer who has SMP 7.0 SP5 installed, CMS7, AMS7, SMS7 and Recovery. He has not installed the rollup which has been mentioned on the forums yet but he's been having problems like his managed delivery policies are running detection rules over and over. There are no missing files from his Inventory Rule agent folder.

    Last week he mentioned to me seeing the hard drive light flickering all the time. He rebooted and that fixed it for awhile. He wacked the Task Mgmt folder and that fixed it for awhile. The Task Run History on the clients has been one clue that it's going on because you can see the detection rules running and re-running despite whatever schedule has been configured.

    This morning I decide to take a look at the Altiris Agent logs and all 20 have the same time stamp. The top file is writing steadily and I can watch the size keep changing as it writes new log files.

    Anyone else seen this?

    There are a couple of known things that can cause the MSD policies to generate this behavior.

    1. Policies scheduled to run @ midnight.

    2. Policies scheduled to perform a compliance check and have the option 'User must turn on from Altiris agent' enabled.

    3. Schedules removed from active policies.
