I originally posted this as a reply to another post and realized I should probably make a new post (the other post was entitled "Unable to span a ghost image to CDs using a MS/PC DOS or WinPE boot partition").
Running GSS 2.5
Use WinPE not MS or PC DOS
Ghost Boot Wizard.exe v11.5.0.2141
Ghost32.exe v11.5.0.2165
I make ISOs using the Ghost Boot Wizard and then burn using Roxio. The images I'm working with will all fit onto one DVD. I can create, check integrity and restore an image from a DVD with no issues. But I also needed to test a spanned image so I have the same image spanned onto 4 CDs.
I have verified that my ghost32.exe build is 2165 and my Ghost Boot Wizard.exe build is 2141, using Live Update comes up with no new updates.
When I create an image I use the new naming scheme (.gho) and I let ghost name the files automatically. I have no problems with this process either on CD or DVD.
When I check the integrity or try to restore the first disc of the image it runs fine. When it asks for the second disc and I put that disc in Ghost will error that it "cannot open the image file e:\CDR0000#.gho [win32 error: (0x00000002) The system cannot find the file specified] (10010). If I put the third disc in Ghost just gives me an error that it's the wrong disc from the span. If I put the second disc back in and browse to the only file on the disc, the CDR00002.gho file, and open that file then the restore continues until it needs the next part of the span in which I have to repeat the process except with the next disc. Ghost knows it needs the next part of the span but it asks for the wrong file name.
Example: In my testing Disc 1 has CDR00001.GHO, disc 2 has CDR00002.GHO, disc 3 has CDR00003.GHO and disc 4 has CDR00004.GHO. So, if I put Disc 1 in the drive and start the restore it will run through that part of the span, it then asks for the next disc. I put disc 2 in the drive (which contains CDR00002.gho) and I get the error that it cannot open the image file e:\CDR00003.gho. If i then click browse and navigate to the CD/DVD drive and choose the CDR00002.gho file (the only file on the second disc) and click open then the restore continues until it asks for the next disc. I then put Disc 3 in and I get the cannot open the image file e:\CDR00004.gho. I browse the disc and open the CDR00003.gho file (the only file on the third disc) then the restore continues. Ghost is searching for one file ahead of what is actually next in the span. When it should be looking for CDR0002.GHO it is actually looking for CDR00003.GHO and so on, so I have to browse to the manually.
From what I have read in the post mentioned above is that this issue was fixed in build 2165. My ghost32 exe shows that build but does my Ghost Boot Wizard need to be on that version also because it's not.
My needs are to be able to use DVDs or CDs. My company is a HW reseller, a third party reseller, and we also sell our own Proprietary SW. We want our users to be able to create recovery CDs beyond our Image CDs when send with each machine. The predecessors of my department had this working in the past with Ghost 7 or 8 and we have upgraded/updated the whole process and are stuck at this point.
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated!
