spcd.sys
Guys,
When I try to deploy the cisco phone agent and then the cisco client on lapops that should have boh component together it crashes their systems with a bluescreen and if I investigate the bluescreen by creating a mini dump file the resul is showing that the blue screen was caused by spcd.sys
I have updated/downgraded the video drivers but the issue still persists
Any thoughts? should I just modify he MSI and remove he entries for spcd.sys?
Sam
What did the dump debug
What did the dump debug "analyze" exactly tell you?
I will let you know tomorrow
I will let you know tomorrow as I am not at work right now but as far as I remember it gives me the spcd.sys as responsible for the system crash or blue screen
Does the order of install make any difference?
What happens if you change the install order, or implement a reboot between the two installs?
Googling on "spcd.sys" does suggest this is not an uncommon issue.

Same result no matter what
Same result no matter what order I choose, as far as implementing a reboot in between, there is already one after the Cisco client installs it requires a reboot
I have tested it on a clean machine with just XP installed (no images deployed) and it works...
Please clarify
When you say you've tried it on just XP with no images installed - did you mean to say "apps" ?
I've got a pretty clean XP install here and it doesn't have the spcd.sys driver anywhere on the hard disk.
Is spcd.sys being installed by one of the Cisco apps, or is it coming from another app altogether?

Yes, XP installed directly
Yes, XP installed directly from a CD. did not deploy any base or application images
The spcd.sys is being installed by the Cisco Phone Agent or Desktop Agent which is one of the Cisco software that was already installed on some laptops prior deploying the Cisco VPN client
It's clearly the Cisco Phone Agent that uses spcd.sys and causes conflict with other Cisco clients like VPN Client
and Cisco SSC which is cisco secure services client
Cisco SSC works fine with Cisco client but as soon as we deploy the agent with either one of them it crashes with a blue screen and if I check the dump file spcd.sys is being pointed as the principal cause of the crash
Are you running SR-1?
Have a look at:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/cad_enterprise/cadenterprise7_2/release/notes/cad721sr1rn.pdf
It would appear that blue screen problems with spcd.sys are fixed in SR-1
Is this the version you are running?

Thanks for that but
Thanks for that but apparenlty that release was to fix a blue screen on the server side not clients
Does this not suggest something....
Since there has been an identified issue with spcd.sys and server operating systems which clearly matches the experience you are having with the client installs, would it not be a good move to contact Cisco and discuss your problems with their techs?
Or you could try replacing the version of spcd.sys in your current Cisco install with the newer version from the server side install and see if that makes any difference?
I don't think that we can help you find any other solution here, as it's pretty clear that the problem is not a packaging or deployment issue but a buggy file from Cisco. Who knows, there may be an updated version that is not officially released, which they will let you try.....;-)
