  • 1.  Specifics on Bomgar replacement for PCAnywhere

I attended the webcast a few days ago announcing that Bomgar will be replacing PCAnywhere in DS 7.6.  Are there any specifics on how exactly this needs to be setup?  I see we get 2 free licenses, but do we need to buy and set up a Bomgar Box for this to work?

With 26 Tecnicians in a single shift, I am curious how much this is gonig to cost me considering I already paid for Pcanywhere.

May be time to finally look at SCCM.

Does SCCM offer a remote access tool?

Hi guys! Kim from Bomgar here. With this offer, you'll receive a Bomgar virtual appliance, two licenses and one year of maintenance. We have a concurrent licensing model, which means you only need licenses for the number of reps who will be logged into the Representative Console at one time. You can sign up for the offer here http://www.bomgar.com/pcanywhere/altiris/ or check out the PDF attached for more information!

As for SCCM, it does offer a very limited remote control feature, however, we often find that even customers who use SCCM will still use Bomgar for our extensive security and collaboration features.

Any questions, just let me know!

    Kim Richard

Thanks, I found this out as well this week after reaching out to Bomgar.  Maintenance will cost about $1500 per year after the first year, so that will add quite a bit to the cost of Altiris.  This is unfortunate as we now will have to pay for something we used to get included with the product.  Will the cost of Altiris renewals go down to account for this loss of functionality?

Beyond costs, is there any documentation anywhere for the integration with CMS?  I read something about creating your own right click actions for integrating them both?

I'd like to know if it's possible with 7.5 or if 7.6 is required (we're not going to be ready to upgrade for awhile).

    Thanks for any advice

You can find the information about the Remote Access Connector feature in Symantec's Administration Guide at the following link.

It is in chapter 31 on page 414.

We went with Dameware from Solarwinds as a Pcanywhere replacement.  Very reasonably priced, we purchased through Logisoft.

Bomgar has a nice feature set, we were just no where near being able to afford it.
