SQL 2005
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
We have Backup Exec 9.1 on one server, and we're trying to backup SQL 2005 databases on a remote server. We were told by our reseller this would be OK, as long as we followed this procedure
What you can do is buy a new SQL agent for 10.1, and this can be downgraded to BE 9.1. This will work with V9, therefore negating the need to upgrade your customers whole environment. To get the downgrade key, you will need to call Symantec sales
This is what we did. Now, when we try and select the SQL 2005 databases for backup we get the following error
An error was encountered while trying to browse the contents of SQL-2005\CALEDONIAN. A network connection to the server could not be established.
Thanks
Graham

Hello,
SQL 2005 is not compatible with BE 9.1.
Please see the compatibility list.

Hi Graham,
Go to your reseller and demand your money back.
I'd also be surprised if Symantec sales actually downgraded your key.
Only Backup Exec 10.1 with Hotfix 6 supports SQL 2005 Yukon.
You should contact your reseller.

As I thought.
Thanks for your help.
