    Hi,

I've looked at the datasheet if the CMS7 works with SQL 2008 Express and there says only 2005 or better, do the better mean sql 2008 also? I'm asking because I'm trying to install with the SQL 2008 and the installation says that the Notification Server needs SQL 2005.

    Thanks

Platform Support Matrix - AKB46349 - Look at the SMP attachment, page 6. SQL2008 and 2008 Express are supported. However, I have no firm idea if SQL 2008 will work with Service Desk.

I'm trying to get ServiceDesk working on SQL 2008 SP1 at the moment (for a dev environment only) and I'm getting stuck on the SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection being not installed, I've installed the SQL 2008 Management Objects but it appears the installer is checking for the 2005 version only.

Read somewhere on kb.altiris.com that SQL 2008 'may work but is not supported' but can't find the link right now.

would be interested to hear if anyone is able to get it running..

that was the same problem I had but with the CMS7 and the only way i found was to work with the SQL 2005, I tryed the SQL 2008 SP1 and express R2 did not work.

I can confirm I have CMS7 running on SQL 2008 SP1 in SQL2005 compatibility mode, although this is not a supported configuration it appears to be running fine - I have not tried in native 2008 mode.

currently works with 2008 SQL (including SP1), in native mode.  The product matrix confirms this, and I've personally done this, several times. However, Service Desk is the big question mark, and as kiwidj specifies, it's not supported and most likely will not work.

Good point Jim,  for some reason I thought SQL 2008 still wasn't supported for SMP/CMS.

I can also confirm I was able to get SD7 to install onto Win 2008 R2 / SQL 2008 SP1 in native mode but it falls over at the end of installation, assumingly once it actually tries to use the database it's just created..
