SQL Agent Backup Status Report
I have what is probably a very simply question for someone.
I have a client backing up some SQL backups. the job report says that the agent was used but not open file. It also provides a report on the overall data backed up in terms of size. However, it lists 0 files, and 0 folders, 0 skipped, 0 corrupt, etc.. Is this normal? Should it report that it backed up specific files and folders or is the fact the job reports as having completed successfully and I can see a report of data actually being reported as backed up an indication that this backup process worked? If this is normal, why does the agent report files and folders at all for the SQL agent?
Thanks.

Hi,
Did you actually select the SQL databases using the SQL element of the Selection list?
You should see "SQL" listed under you hard drives in the Selection List GUI.
In here you should see your DB's.
There is no need to select anything in the SQL directories themselves (eg. G:\MSSQL\DATA...) if you are performing a SQL only backup.

Thank you for your response.
Thank you for your response. I am aware that I don't need to select any individual files. I am just curious about what the proper job log response should be. is it normal for it to say 0 files, 0 folders, etc. in terms of what it backed up?` This client has had a lot of problems lately with their backups. I am trying to be sure that what they thing they are backing up at this point really is getting backed up based upon the job log report. I know I could try to do a restore, etc., but I would rather understand what the log is telling me so that I can easily tell in the future as well.
