SQL Agent Installed but not available to Remote Agents
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments
I'm running the 11d trial right now and trying to test out some database backups. I have the SQL server agent installed on the Backup Exec server but when I try a Remote Agent install it doesn't give me the option to install the SQL Agent. I've restarted the server twice and rechecked the install, and it's sayint SQL Agent is there, it's just not getting presented as an agent install. Anyone know what's going wrong?

Backing up SQL requires two thing:
1. The Remote Agent for Windows Servers (AKA.. RAWS) must be installed on the SQL computer. Since Backup Exec automatically installs the RAWS on the core Backup Exec computer, there is no need to "reinstall" the Remote Agent (since the BE and SQL computers are one in the same in your case). RAWS is already installed on the SQL computer.
2. Backup Exec must be installed with a Backup Exec "Agent for SQL Server" serial number or if you are installing Backup Exec as an eval, the SQL Server option should be selected.
1. I'm doing the Eval of 11d, and I selected the SQL Agent to be installed. I can go back into the 'License keys and installation' and verify that the SQL component is installed. I've also rebooted the Backup Exec server and SQL server since installing.
2. The Remote Agent for Windows Servers has been installed to the SQL Server. I installed it by 'Add remote computer manually' by IP address and domain. It still does not give me the option of installing the SQL agent to the remote machine. It give me four options: Remote agent, advanced open file option, desktop and laptop agent, DLO maintenance service.
Hello,
Please note that to backup the remote sql server, it is required to enter the sql agent license key on the Backup exec server and the remote agent for windows server on the remote sql server.
As in this case you can see remote agent, then you can select it and install on the remote sql server. There is no separate option as remote agent for sql server.
