Hi

SQL database backup are failing (partially) with error "ERR - Error <abc> is involved in another operation".

is there any configuration in NB,  if database involved in another operation netbackup should wait till another operation complete and start pending backup again. so that the backup job will complete successfully.

Thanks & Regards

Hi

I believe the SQL backup admin's might be running their own backups to disk or flat files at the same time. You can relook at rescheduling your backup so they dont collide with one another(their backup). There is a SQL query I can dig up to show the active backup streams in SQL should you need it.

This crops up a lot with my customers where the SQL DBA's have their own maintenance plans and this causes two issues.

Firstly you cannot run both at the same time - there is no wait system built into NetBackup so you just need to make sure they run at different times

Secondly, if you are doing transaction logs backups, the log backups will fail as NetBackup will detect that it did not do the last Full backup of the database (which would make any logs invalid)

So you need to either only do full backups at a different time to the SQL DBAs or have a chat with them and try and get them to trust NetBackup - it will save you a lot of disk space on the SQL Servers if there aren't dumps everywhere (which you are probably also backing up during the file system backups)

Hope this helps
