SQL database configuration

I would love to configure an SQL database with my SEP 11 MR1, but I'll be darned if I can get it to work.

Can someone point me to some more detailed instructions for the Microsoft side of things?

Are you using sql2005?
You have to install Sql client on your SEP server.
Seems on but you do
Then set up your SQL database settings and point it to your sql server
one other note that is not very clear you have to rename the database... do not keep the default name
