SQL Database Settings
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
One of my notification servers yesterday stopped allowing access to the console. When i attempt to launch the 6.0 console it takes me through the setup wizard again. One of my colleagues uninstalled deployment solution yesterday and that is the only thing that has changed. The problem that I am experiencing is that when i attempt to go through the setup wizard again to define the settings I get the following error on the SQL Database Settings screen:
"Failed to get the list of available databases, check your database credentials"
I have checked the credentials and they seem to be fine. Has anyone had this problem before? How did you fix it?

I think the account specified
I think the account specified needs to have permissions to enumerate all the databases on the specified SQL server; it tries to do this so it can populate the "database" dropdown on that screen. I would fire up the LogViewer.exe to see if it is logging any more detailed info. You may need to temporarily grant the application ID account higher rights on the SQL box so it can get the full list.
Thanks,
Kyle

What we did to alleviate this
What we did to alleviate this issue (which makes no sense to me at all) is delete the altiris express ODBC connection on the server and recreate it. I have no idea why it fixed the communication issue, but all is well now.
I did have to then open the 6.0 console and run the NS setup wizard again, but the problem went away.
Weird
Wow! Well whatever works I guess...
Thanks,
