SSIM rule notifications stopped working.

Since a few weeks our notification e-mails configured in our rules on our SSIM system stopped working.
Creation of the incident still works, assigning works, but the e-mail notifications are no longer sent to the users listed in the rules.
Does anyone have an idea what could cause this issue?
Reports on the other hand do still work, our daily/weekly/monthly reports are sent as expected to the requested users/groups. Since reports are sent out I guess this is no problem caused by the mailing system.
Anyone have an idea?
We really need these mails to keep our people/system organised.
