I'm using Symantec endpoint protection 12.1

For SEP, you would use SSL to sign and encrypt the data using an HTTPS connection. Check these KBAs for further reference:

HI, 

Security certificate is used to encrypt the communication on SEP, by default system will generate self-signed certificate. Or else you can use of third party signed certificate to get the communication encrypted.
